Artificial Intelligence is a growing field, and with it Machine Learning, and many industry are picking up the benefits as well as actuaries. Hear from our guest speakers about how Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning is applied in the actuarial world and learn more about possible fields within the actuary profession.

Elgin Jayanleen is an Analyst at GAD and he has been at GAD for over 4 years. He graduated from Queen Mary, University of London with a BSc in Mathematics with Finance and Accounting and from Leicester University with a MSc in Actuarial Science.



In his first 2 years of GAD, he worked in the Actuarial Services team, where his main highlight were working on the valuation of Public Sector pension schemes, which impacts on around 15 million people in total in the UK.  

 

In his current team, Insurance & Investments, his main highlights include working on the Student Loans, which involved providing advice and analysis to UK Government Investments (UKGI) on preparing, pricing and implementing the successful sales of the government’s student loan book in England. More information on this in their presentation! Another of his main highlights include working in the yearly pricing & reserving projects for clinical negligence claims in the NHS. It will be interesting to see how COVID-19 will impact claims, and affect their pricing & reserving projects in the future!

Nazmus  Haq is a qualified actuary at GAD with 6 years of experience in investment, risk and pensions consulting in the public sector. During this time, he has been involved in a range of projects including: advising on the Student Loans Sale Programme, building data pipeline architectures for pension scheme valuations, and working with both supervised/unsupervised machine learning techniques in various actuarial applications.

 

Currently, he is also a senior analytical lead at the Department of Health and Social Care on the UK Government COVID-19 response to protecting the clinically extremely vulnerable.

 

He graduated from both Imperial College London (MSci and PhD) and University of Cambridge (MASt) with degrees in mathematics. More recently, his PhD research focused on orthogonal polynomials and random matrices, with applications to theoretical physics and electronic engineering.

Alan Chalk is a qualified Actuary who has spent most of his career working in the General Insurance sector. He undertook a Masters degree in Statistics and then more recently in Machine Learning. He now works as a Data Scientist in an actuarial team and is a Visiting Lecturer at Cass.
