There have been several remarkable talks about the coronavirus pandemic with various academics and professionals. They often have similar, but also very different, views on what the future of insurance holds. What are main implications of COVID-19 for insurers globally? Do insurers have COVID-19 covered? Can we predict the impact on reserves for general (re)insurers? How has the pandemic affected the UK insurance market? What does the current market situation mean to the actuarial profession?

Mr Michael Tripp, Mr Dimitrios Velmachos and Mr Asif John, our guest (and familiar) speakers, will be answering also these questions based on their vast knowledge and expertise in the insurance industry. Michael will be taking considerations for the General Insurance, whereby he will address the understanding the effect of COVID-19 in three categories: claims experience, operations, asset liability matching. Secondly, Asif will then discuss the implications the virus has on data analytics and what areas should actuaries and student members start to focus on. Our last speaker, Dimitrios, will then conclude by looking at lessons learnt from this whole situation regarding the risk management. He will expound on this topic by looking comparing the traditional risk management approaches to the new ones.
