Overview of the UK Job market but focus on key differences to the China Market
a. Perceptions vs Reality of the UK market (explore visa issues, languages and rules of business and writing, competition for graduate schemes)
b. How to approach the job search – focus on what they want vs parental expectations
c. The application – Job offer process
Recognising cultural differences when attending interviews, assessment centres - respect and value differences
d. How business is done in different countries focus on China and UK – focus on the positives (languages, international experience as opposed to negatives – non UK poor English language etc and link this to developing and demonstrating confidence.
Communicating effectively
e. Develop skills and approaches to aid networking opportunities
f. Immersing self in language, e.g. watch TV, read newspapers, link to Commercial Awareness (talking intelligently about an area of interest) - cover active listening, questioning techniques, preparing for certain situations (careers fairs, networking events, engaging with recruiters, peers, and faculty)

Workshop will be led by Toni Liu at Career Services

Toni is an ex careers coach and sector manager at London Business School where she managed buy-side Financial Services, Industry and Social Impact sector careers. She has extensive experience in providing careers guidance and educating students about getting careers started internationally. Being a native Chinese speaker, Toni managed employer relationships in China and project led LBS flagship recruitment events to maximize hiring opportunities for Chinese students. Toni understands the challenges and factors which often affect the performance and goal setting processes for Chinese students in areas of limitation of work visa issues, networking in the West, social pressure and families’ expectations. She will address how to tackle these challenges in the session and give you the tools and structured thinking to tackle these challenges, boost your confidence and help you achieve a job. She is passionate about helping others succeed and gains much satisfaction by seeing students achieving success.

Before joining LBS, Toni has worked within the Business Development capacity for international companies such as Xerox, CEB (Corporate Executive Board) and RFG where she helped these organization develop sales strategy and drive performance by commercializing their unique offerings.
