In this talk we outline how we have developed a piece of mathematical HR research, undertaken at Cass, into a commercial service for the NHS. The context is that of junior doctors. The optimisation directly addresses the issue of their moral and wellbeing, by taking account of their fatigue and study and leave preferences. While the 2016 junior doctors’ New Contract aspires to these ends, it is apparent that the standard rota system is not accommodating in this respect. We report on a case study at an Emergency Department in London, and give some feel for the challenges of going commercial.

The commercialisation is done under the umbrella of a City University spin out company, Nightglass Medical rostering Ltd..

Dr. Hugo R. Mills, Chief Technical Officer
